Murphy, Otto Lead Tartans Past Allegheny, 88-59

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball senior Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) tied a career-high with 22 points while junior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) scored a season-high 34 points, as the Tartans defeated Allegheny College, 88-59, on Saturday, November 21. The Tartans are now 3-0 on the year.

Carnegie Mellon held a 15-8 lead after the first quarter, scoring its final four points on free throws by Murphy and Otto. The Tartans extended the lead to 12 points with an 8-3 run to open the second period, with Murphy scoring six.

The Tartans led 28-18 following a three-pointer by junior Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook (Colgate)) with 3:51 to play in the half before the Gators pulled within four points at the break behind a 9-3 run to end the quarter.

The home team scored four of the first six points of the third quarter to pull within two points, but the Tartans answered and scored as many points in the third quarter as they did in the first half to lead 62-43 with a 10 minutes to play. Murphy accounted for 12 of the Tartans 31 third quarter points, while Otto dropped in 11 points.

The Tartans defense held Allegheny to 26.8% shooting from the floor for the game while the visitors shot 45.7% for the game, including a 61.8% clip for the second half. The Tartans also out rebounded the Gators, 67-42.

Murphy and Otto both recorded double-doubles with 17 and 10 rebounds, respectively. Freshman Jenn Mayberger (Chesterfield, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) maintained her average of 7.0 assists with seven assists for the game, while senior Lindsay Poss (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) dished out a season-high six assists.

Allegheny was led by Delaney Arbore's 17 points off the bench.

The Tartans will return home to face Waynesburg University on Tuesday, November 24 at 6:00 p.m.
