Murphy Honored for Sixth Time as UAA Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Junior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team picked up her sixth University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honor after averaging 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games last week.

Murphy shot 88.2% from the floor, including a perfect performance (8-for-8) in a 70-57 win against #7 New York University on Friday and a 7-for-9 effort in a 72-66 loss to Brandeis University on Sunday. In the win against NYU, Murphy scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for her 11th double-double. Against Brandeis the junior also converted 5-of-5 from the free throw line to register 19 points. Over a four-game stretch, dating back to the game versus NYU last Friday, Murphy strung together 17 straight field goals before falling short on her third attempt Sunday against Brandeis.

Murphy and the Tartans will be back in action on Friday, February 12 at the University of Chicago. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT as the Tartans will look to sweep the season series for the third time and first since 1998-99.
