Hudepohl's Jumper Propels No. 18 Tartans to 71-69 Win at Saint Vincent

(LATROBE, Pa.) - Senior Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook (Colgate)) hit the game-winning jumper with 2.8 seconds to go to bring the Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team back from a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat Saint Vincent College, 71-69, on the road Saturday, November 26. The 18th-ranked Tartans improved to 5-0 with the win while the Bearcats dropped to 2-2.

Hudepohl drove into the paint and watched as the winning jumper rolled in after Saint Vincent tied the game with nine seconds to play on a three-pointer by Susie Ellis.

The Bearcats held the lead from the opening bucket until 2:29 to play in the third quarter when freshman Megan Jaeb (San Jose, Calif./Presentation) scored on a layup to give the Tartans a 46-45 lead. Sophomore Jenn Mayberger (Chesterfield, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) hit a three-pointer to close the third period and the Tartans led 49-45 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Saint Vincent retook the lead following a layup and foul shot by Mara Benvenuti with 6:58 to play but the two-point advantage was short lived as senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) tied the game at 57-57 on the next possession.

The lead would switch sides twice with four additional ties before Hudepohl's final jumper in the paint.

Freshman Makayla Filiere (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) led the Tartans with 19 points including a three-pointer that tied the game at 62-62 with 4:13 to play. Hudepohl finished with 18 points while Murphy scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass.

Saint Vincent was led by Jasmine Weems and Benvenuti who both had 18 points.

The Tartans will host their first game of the season on Wednesday, November 30 when Mount Aloysius College comes to Pittsburgh for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
