Higgins Honored as ECAC Women’s Basketball South Rookie of the Week

(DANBURY, Conn.) – Carnegie Mellon University freshman Katharine Higgins (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) has been named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Basketball South Rookie of the Week for her efforts in two road wins for the Tartans last week.

Higgins helped lead the then 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team to its first road weekend sweep in the UAA since 2000 when the Tartans topped Brandeis, 65-58, and NYU, 66-61. At NYU on Sunday, Higgins scored a career-best 20 points and tied her career high in rebounds with 10 for her second double-double of the season. She averaged 11.0 points and 7.5 rebounds with three assists and two blocks.

The Tartans (13-1, 2-1 University Athletic Association) return to action on Friday, January 20 when #23 University of Rochester visits Pittsburgh for a 6:00 p.m. tip. The Tartans will also be at home on Sunday, January 22 against Emory University at 2:00 p.m.
