#20 Tartans Fall to Chicago on the Road

(CHICAGO, Ill.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team faced the University of Chicago on the road Sunday, February 5. The 20th-ranked Tartans fell to the Maroons, 88-39, to move to 15-5 on the year and 4-5 in the University Athletic Association (UAA).

Chicago made 10 three-pointers in the first half to build a 49-26 lead by halftime, as they shot 52.6% from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes. Senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) led the Tartans with 12 first-half points while making 5-of-5 from the field.

The Tartans shot 44.0% for the half after faltering in the second period making just 3-of-10 from the field while turning the ball over 16 times leading to 15 points for the Maroons.

Chicago's shooting didn't cool down in the second half as Miranda Burt added back-to-back three-pointers to push the Maroon lead to 57-26 with 7:54 left to play. The Maroons held the Tartans to nine third-quarter points and held a 70-35 advantage entering the final 10 minutes.

The Maroons finished with a season-best 15 three-pointers while shooting an identical 48.4% from behind the arc and from the field. Carnegie Mellon struggled to find the basket in the second half and finished the game 12-of-47 for 25.5% in the 88-39 loss.

Murphy didn't attempt a shot in the second half, finishing with12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Tartans.

Carnegie Mellon returns home to face Brandeis University on Friday, February 10 at 6:00 p.m. for its next contest.
