Murphy Repeats as WBCA and D3hoops.com First Team All-American

(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) was selected as a first team All-American by D3hoops.com and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for the second straight year when the organizations announced their yearly awards prior to the Division III women's basketball national championship on Saturday, March 18. Murphy's honors join her selection as the 2017 Jostens Trophy award winner this season.

Murphy completed the 28-game season with an average of 24.3 points and 13.5 rebounds a game to record her third season averaging more than 20 points and 10 rebounds. Both averages join her shooting percentage of .780 as new school records while her showing from the field tops her NCAA Division III record set last year at .752. A 6-1 center, Murphy also set new season school records in points scored with 681, free throws made with 179, free throws attempted with 218, rebounds with 379 and blocks with 75. All but both rebound records were previously set by Murphy.

In addition to Carnegie Mellon's school records, Murphy also set University Athletic Association (UAA) records for points (44), field goals made (16), total rebounds (24) and offensive rebounds (12) in a game as well as UAA season records in points scored (336), scoring average (24.0), field goals made (122) and shooting percentage (77.2%) on her way to repeating as the UAA Player of the Year.

Earlier this year, Murphy became the first player in UAA women's basketball history and 18th player in Division III history to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for her career. Additionally she is the 8th player in Division III history to tally 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 200 blocks.

For the year, Murphy's numbers ranked her nationally in the top five in field-goal percentage (1st), field goals made, free throws made and final points (2nd), points per game (3rd), total rebounds (4th) and double-doubles (5th). Her rebounds per game are just outside the top five at seventh.

While Murphy graduates as the best women's basketball player in Carnegie Mellon history, she'll also leave her name in the NCAA records book. Her career shooting percentage of .712 and season average of .780 will stand as the best across all three divisions. She also had a string of 11 double-doubles in 2016-2017 that will make the Division III book while she finished with a career-best 21 double-doubles for the season.
