Tartans Close Road Trip with 54-43 Win Against Finlandia

(WOOSTER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team finished a four-game road stand with a 54-43 victory against Finlandia University at the Wooster College Classic on Sunday, November 18. The Tartans are now 4-0 for the year and have won each game by double-digits.

Freshman Caitlyn Clendenin (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) recorded her third double-figure scoring game and led the Tartans with 16 points. Junior guard Makalya Filiere (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton) was back in the starting lineup and scored 13 for her fourth game in double figures. The Tartans outrebounded the Lions 40-26 for the game with senior Jenn Mayberger (Chesterfield, Mo. / Cor Jesu Academy) leading with six. Clendenin, freshman Emily Archer (Chatham, N.J. / Oak Knoll) and junior Cameron Pitts (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale) each recorded five rebounds.

For the third straight game, the Tartans shot better than 40% from the field, making 23-of-55 (.418) for the game, including a 61.5% clip in the third quarter as they extended a six-point halftime lead to 12 going into the final period.

A nine-point run for the Tartans in the second period wiped out a one-point first-quarter deficit and the Tartans held the lead the remainder of the game. Filiere's only triple of the game, one of two for the Tartans, ended that nine-point run putting the Tartans ahead 19-11.

Clendenin was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 17.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and shooting 65.2% from the floor in the two games.

The Tartans will return home for a contest against Bethany College on Tuesday, November 20 at 6:00 p.m.
