Tartans Close Home Season with Loss to Emory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team hosted Emory University in the home season finale on Sunday, February 17, falling to the Eagles, 57-46. The Tartans are now 12-12 for the year and 3-10 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while the Eagles sit at 18-6 and 9-4.

Three Tartans reached double figures with freshmen Emily Archer (Chatham, N.J. / Oak Knoll) and Leah Weslock (Howell, Mich. / Howell) leading the way with 11 points apiece. Senior Jenn Mayberger (Chesterfield, Mo. / Cor Jesu Academy) recorded 10 points in her final home game as a Tartan. Freshman Caitlyn Clendenin (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) led the Tartans on the boards with seven rebounds that went along with nine points.

The Tartans trailed by four at halftime after shooting 35.0% from the floor and holding Emory to 29.0%. At the end of the first quarter the score was tied at 12 when Clendenin converted two free throws with nine seconds to go.

Carnegie Mellon only scored seven points in the second quarter but kept close to the Eagles who only made 4-of-16 attempts during the 10-minute frame.

The three ball finally fell for Emory in the second half, as they started the third quarter with back-to-back buckets from distance. After leading by eight going into the final period, Emory extended their lead to double digits with a quarter-opening 8-0 run. They would later lead by as many as 20 points after hitting their fourth triple of the frame with more than five minutes remaining.

The Tartans finished shooting 34.8% for the game with 15 turnovers to Emory's 36.2% and 13 turnovers.

The Tartans will next travel to Case Western Reserve University (14-10, 6-7) on Saturday, February 23 for the last game of the regular season.
