Filiere and Weslock Earn Women’s Basketball All-UAA Recognition

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball players were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches this week when the Association announced the 2018-19 All-UAA Women's Basketball Team. Junior Makayla Filiere (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and freshman Leah Weslock (Howell, Mich./Howell) were both named honorable mention following their performances throughout the year for the 12-13 Tartans.

Filiere's honor marks her second straight by the league's coaches, as she was on the second team a year ago. This year, the junior led the Tartans by scoring 10.0 points per game while shooting 41.1% from the floor. She was second on the team in assists per game with 2.1. Defensively, Filiere picked up 72 steals which led the UAA and was good for 2.9 a game. Filiere needs 33 points to become the 13th Tartan to score 1,000 career points.

Weslock was second on the team in scoring with 242 points and 9.7 a game. In UAA play, the first year player led the Tartans with 11.1 points per game while shooting 38.3% from behind the arc. Weslock was second on the team in rebounding with 6.0 a game and finished her rookie campaign with 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals a game in 29.2 minutes a game.
