Tartans Win Third Straight, Top Pitt-Greensburg 71-43

(GREENSBURG, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team won its third straight game to move to 3-3 for the season with a 71-43 road win at Pitt-Greensburg.

Three players scored in double figures for the Tartans with senior Makayla Filiere (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton) leading with 15 points. Sophomore Caitlyn Clendenin (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) contributed 11 points with senior Megan Jaeb (San Jose, Calif. / Presentation) scoring 10 off the bench. Clendenin was the top rebounder for the Tartans with seven while sophomore Leah Weslock (Howell, Mich. / Howell) and Jaeb each had four steals. Senior Laurel Pereira (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville North) had five of the team's 17 assists.

The Tartans shot better than 40% for the fourth time this season and the third straight game, finishing with a 42.9% performance from the floor.

Pitt-Greensburg held the lead for just over four minutes in the first quarter and by as many as five points (11-6) before the Tartans tied the game at 13-13 on a three-pointer by Filiere with 1:54 to play in the frame. Clendenin then gave the Tartans the led on the next play down court with a layup following a steal and assit by Jaeb.

The fourth triple of the quarter by Pitt-Greensburg made the score 17-16 Tartans with time expiring.

Filiere scored the first points of the second quarter with her second three-pointer of the contest and the Tartans used a 19-1 run to extend its lead to 19 points at the second-quarter buzzer.

The Tartans shot 40.0% from the floor in the third quarter behind eight made field goals and seven points from Filiere. With a 26-point lead going into the final frame, the Tartans picked up eight steals and scored another 16 points to close the game with the 28-point win.

Carnegie Mellon will next travel to La Roche College on Tuesday, December 3 for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
