Clendenin Scores 21 for Second Straight Contest in Tartans Win Against Spalding

(WOOSTER, Ohio) - For the second straight game, senior Caityln Clendenin (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) matched her career-high with 21 points as the Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team defeated Spalding University, 86-54, on the second day of the Nan Nichols Classic at the College of Wooster. The Tartans are 2-2 for the season.

Clendenin's 21 points came on a 9-for-11 effort from the field which also ties her career-high for field goals made in a game. Joining Clendenin with double-digit points was freshman Catherin Or (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marlborough School) and senior Leah Weslock (Howell, Mich. / Howell). Or tallied 12 points for her third double-digit scoring game of the season while Weslock finished with 10 for her fourth game with at leas 10 points. Freshman Isha Nambisan (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) played 18 minutes off the bench and scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead all substitutes.

The Tartans shot a season-best 55.1% from the floor with 38 made field goals and dished out a season-best 22 assists. Or and Weslock each had a season-best four assists.

Clendenin scored 11 of her points in the pivotal second quarter when the Tartans shot 44.4% from the floor while Spalding hit just two of 11 shots for the Tartans to outscore the Eagles 20-4 for the quarter. Clendenin also grabbed seven of her eight rebounds for the game in the quarter.

The Tartans had an even better offensive showing in the third quarter hitting 66.7% of their shots for 31 points. Clendenin, freshman Anisha Chintala (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and Or each had six points in the frame.

Carnegie Mellon will host its first game of the season on Tuesday, November 23 when Franciscan University visits Pittsburgh for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
