Five Score in Double Figures in Loss at Marietta

(MARIETTA, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team closed play in the Marietta College Jim Meagle Holiday Classic on Thursday, December 30 with a 71-63 loss to host Marietta. The Tartans are now 5-3 for the season while the Pioneers move to 10-1.

Five Tartans scored in double figures with freshman Anisha Chintala (Austin, Texas / Westwood) leading the group with 13 points. Freshman Isha Nambisan (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) scored 12 off the bench while seniors Cailtlyn Clendenin (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) and Leah Weslock (Howell, Mich. / Howell), along with freshman Catherine Or (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marlborough School), scored 11.

The Tartans shot well with a 45.0% showing from the floor but couldn't overcome the long range performance by the Pioneers whose seven made three-pointers to the Tartans two, proved to be the difference.

Carnegie Mellon was strong on the boards, grabbing 40 rebounds to 31 for the Pioneers, and pulled within six points in the fourth quarter after a steal and layup by Chintala with 5:45 to play.

A 7-2 run by the Pioneers put them back up by 11 with 2:19 to play and as the Tartans tried to chip away at the deficit, the Pioneers were able to maintain the lead with a layup and making 4-of-6 from the free throw line.

Chintala and Clendenin were named to the all-tournament team for their respective performances in the two-game set.

The Tartans will return home for three straight games, leading off with La Roche University on Monday, January 3 at 3:00 p.m.
