Or Records Career-High in Road Loss to WashU

(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Washington University in St. Louis squad on Monday, February 7 in an 81-60 loss to the Bears on the road. The Tartans are now 9-9 overall and 3-6 in the University Athletic Association (UAA).

The Bears shot 59.5% from the field in the first half after scoring 31 points in the first quarter with another 24 in the second quarter.

The Tartans shot 44.1% for the half and only turned the ball over five times but the hot shooting from the Bears put the visitors in a 19-point hole.

WashU hit six of their first seven shots to take a 16-2 lead less than three minutes into the game. The Tartans answered with 14 points over the course of four minutes but the Bears didn't miss on too many trips down the court making another six of seven shots after three turnovers to lead 31-16.

After the Tartans scored the final seven points of the quarter to make it 31-23, the home team opened the second period on a 10-0 run which they pushed to 20-4 before outscoring the Tartans 24-11 for the period.

The pace slowed in the second half but the Bears were able to maintain their lead and closed the game with a season-best 12 three-pointers.

Freshman Catherine Or (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marlborough School) finished with a career-best 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting and eight rebounds. Senior Caitlyn Clendenin (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) scored 15 points while making seven field goals and grabbed nine rebounds.

The Tartans return home to play Brandeis University and ninth-ranked New York University on Friday, February 11 and Sunday, February 13 in their last home games of the season. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Judges.
