Women’s Golf Wins First NCAA Event

(GROVE CITY, Pa.) – History was made for the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team on Tuesday, September 9, as the Tartans won their first-ever tournament in just the second outing of the season.  The Tartans carded a team score of 345 to win the Grove City College Fall Invitational held at the par 72 Grove City Country Club.

Leading the way for the Tartans was freshman Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day).  Kitahara carded a seven-over par 79 to claim individual medalist honors. Fellow freshman Robin Tan (Austin, Texas/Westlake) entered the clubhouse one stroke back with an 80 after shooting a 38 on the back nine to finish second.

Freshman Emma Hoskins (Libertyville, Ill.) turned in her second straight sixth-place finish, as she fired an 86.  Freshmen Isabelle Tseng (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and Frances Hughes (Palo Alto, Calif./Castilleja) rounded out the team scoring for the Tartans with rounds of 100 and 102, respectively.  

The Tartans had two freshmen individuals enter the invitational.  Diana Zhou (Diamond Bar, Calif.) shot a 98 and Ginger Glass (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) ended the day with a 108.

Carnegie Mellon returns to action on Saturday, September 13 at the Thiel College Invitational.
