Women’s Golf Receives Academic Accolades for 2017-18 Season; Ranked 2nd in Division III

The 2017-18 Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team received academic recognition from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Wednesday when the association announced the top 25 teams with the highest team GPA for each division. The Tartans ranked second among NCAA Division III institutions and 18th across all divisions. The 13-member Cardinal and Gray team finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.719.

Four members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team have been named to the 2017-18 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, as announced by the organization. Junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School), sophomores Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) and Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho), along with freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) received the honor for the Tartans.

Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) of the Carnegie Mellon University women’s golf team was named to the All-East Region team when the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) recently released its 2018 Division III Awards. The announcement came at the WGCA Division III Awards Banquet held at the National Championship in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida, where Simpson helped the Tartans to a fifth-place national finish.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team, competing in its first NCAA Championship in only four years of varsity competition, finished play at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday with a fifth-place finish after a 72-hole score of 1286 (321-318-320-327). The four-day championships were played on the par-73, 5,804-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Claremont Mudd Scripps and Williams College were tied atop the team leader board at the conclusion of four rounds with a 1261. Claremont Mudd Scripps claimed the national title following a playoff.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team finished play on Thursday with a 320 in the third round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Tartans now have a 54-hole score of 959 and currently are in fifth. Following play today on the par-73, 5,804-yard El Campeón Course, the field was cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete the final day on Friday.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team is currently fourth after the second round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday, May 9 at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Tartans fired a team score of 318 Wednesday across the the par-73, 5,804-yard El Campeón Course for a two-day score of 639. Claremont Mudd Scripps holds the lead with a two-day score of 628 with Williams College in second with a 633 and New York University in third, two strokes ahead of the Tartans.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team opened play in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday, May 8. The Tartans fired a team score of 321 on the par-73, 5,804-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, and are currently tied for third with University Athletic Association counterpart New York University and Carleton College. Claremont Mudd Scripps and Williams College lead the championships after 18 holes with a 311.

In its fourth year of intercollegiate competition, the Carnegie Mellon University women’s golf team has been selected to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships. The championships will be held May 8-11, at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, on the El Campeón Course. Oglethorpe University and Central Florida Sports Commission will be hosting the four-day event.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team had three athletes honored by the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) coaches on the All-UAA team when the awards were announced late last week. Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) headlined the squad for the Tartans as a first team selection. Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) and sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) both found a spot on the second team.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team placed second at the Williams College Spring Invitational on Sunday after firing a 313 to end with a 36-hole score of 635 (322-313). The two-day event being played at Taconic Golf Club which usually plays as a par 71, but this weekend the course was setup as a par 72 with number seven playing as a short par 5, was won by the host Eph women with a 602 after carding back-to-back rounds of 301 Saturday and Sunday.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team competed at the opening round of the Williams College Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon and carded a 321. The Tartans are currently in third in a field of eight teams with the two-day, 36-hole event being played at Taconic Golf Club with par 71.

Davis receives the honor following her play at the Grove City College Invitational where she led the Tartans ‘B’ Team to a second-place finish.

For the second straight day the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team brought home a team title and had the top four finishers when the Tartans competed in the Saint Vincent College Invitational at Champion Lakes Golf Course in Bolivar, Pennsylvania. The Tartans carded their second-best 18-hole round of the season on Sunday at Champion Lakes when they finished with a team score of 310. The victory was the second of the season for the team ranked eighth in the nation.

Carnegie Mellon carded a team score of 320, matching the fifth best score in school history, at the 18-hole event held at the New Castle Country Club.
