Women’s Golf Begins Play at Allegheny Invitational

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team took to the links at the first day of the 2017 Allegheny College Invitational on Sunday. The 36-hole event is being played at the par 73 Country Club of Meadville. The Tartans are currently in third out of 13 teams following day one of action after carding a team score of 332.

Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) carded a two-over par 75 to lead the Tartans in the opening round and is currently second individually, one-stroke off the leader. Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) and sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) are tied for ninth, as both fired rounds of 85.

Sophomore Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) and freshman Cristina Pullen (Brownsville, Texas/Veterans Memorial) are both two strokes back of Kitahara and Lui after entering the clubhouse with rounds of 87.

The Tartans had one individual enter the invitational, as freshman Shanice Lam (Hong Kong, China/International Christian School) shot an 89.

Round two begins Monday morning with a shotgun start beginning at 8:35 a.m.
