Women’s Golf Ends Fall Season with a Third Place Showing at NYU Fall Invitational

(BLOOMFIELD, N.J.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team placed third in a field of 10 at the New York University Fall Invitational on Sunday, October 15. The Tartans carded a 328 in the opening round on Saturday and then improved 11 strokes on Sunday to card a 317 and finish the two-day, 36-hole event with a 645. Williams College won the invitational with a 628 (320-308) which was held at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, New Jersey.

Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) led the Tartans with a 157 after carding rounds of 79 and 78. Simpson placed fifth individually in a field of 51 golfers. Junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) finished with a 160 and improved eight strokes for her opening round 84 on Saturday to fire a career-best round of 76 Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) carded rounds of 80 and 81 to end the event with a 161 while freshman Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) fired a 167 after shooting rounds of 85 and 82. Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) finished play with a 170 (86-84)

The Tartans had one individual enter the invitational, as sophomore Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) carded a 172 (90-82).
