Kitahara Tied for Second after Opening Round of UAA Championships

(PALM COAST, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team opened play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Monday, March 12 with the 36-hole, two-day event being held at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida. The Tartans carded a team score of 329 on Monday playing on the par-72 Conservatory Course.

New York University, the nation's top team, leads the field following the first day of competition after entering the clubhouse with a 315.

Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) led the Tartans on Monday with a 79 and is currently tied for second individually. Sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) entered the clubhouse with an 81 while freshman Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) carded an 83.

Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) shot an 86 and junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) ended the day with a 91.

Carnegie Mellon had one individual enter the championships, as sophomore Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) carded an 83.

The final round will be played on Sunday, March 13 at Hammock Beach beginning at 9:10 a.m. with the first tee time.
