Women’s Golf Finishes Second at UAA Championships and Sets School Record; Rodgers Named Coach of the Year

(PALM COAST, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team continued play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Tuesday and carded a school record round of 303 to finish second with a 36-hole score of 632 (329-303). The two-day event was played on the par-72 Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida. Head Coach Dan Rodgers was named UAA Coach of the Year following the Tartans best showing at the Association Championships.

New York University, the nation's top team, won the championship after carding a 618 (315-303) and Washington University, the nation's fourth-ranked team, fired a two-round score of 660 (334-326) to finish third.

Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) led the Tartans with a 154 after entering the clubhouse with a three-over par 75 Tuesday to end with a 154 (79-75). Her score tied her for second individually for the championships. Kitahara earned all-tournament honors for her finish.

Freshman Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) fired a season-best round of three-over par 75 on Tuesday. Yu shot 158 (83-75) for the 36-hole event and placed sixth overall.

Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) improved 12 strokes from her opening round and carded a two-over par 74 on Tuesday. Her 74 tied a season-low round and was also tied for the second lowest round of the championships, as she ended the championships with a 160. Sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) carded a round of 79 and also finished with a 160 (81-79).

Junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) ended the event with a 175 (91-84) after carding an 84 Tuesday, improving eight strokes from her opening round.

Carnegie Mellon had one individuals enter the championships, as sophomore Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) shot a 165 (83-82).

The Tartans will be back in action on Friday, March 16, at the 54-hole Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate at the Indian Mounds Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
