Jordan Leads Tartans at Opening Round of Jekyll Island Collegiate

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf competed at the first day of the three-day, 54-hole Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate at the Indian Mounds Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia, on Friday. The Tartans are currently sixth, after carding a team score of 314 Friday, March 16 on the par-72, 5,801-yard course. The field is comprised of 23 Division III teams including 12 ranked in the top 25 nationally.

Junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) recorded three birdies on Friday including one on 18 to end play with a five-over par 77. Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) finished a stroke behind Jordan with a six-over 78.

Sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) shot a 79 with freshman Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) entering the clubhouse with an 80. Senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) ended Friday's round with an 86.

Carnegie Mellon had one individual play on the par-72 Oleander Course. Sophomore Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) carded an 82 on Friday, tying her season-best round.

The second round of the event will be held Saturday, March 17 with the first group teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
