Women’s Golf Receives NCAA Bid

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – In its fourth year of intercollegiate competition, the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team has been selected to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. The championships will be held May 8-11, at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, on the El Campeón Course. Oglethorpe University and Central Florida Sports Commission will be hosting the four-day event.

A total of 131 participants will compete at the 2018 championships. Nineteen conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championships. Six teams were selected on an at-large basis from conferences and the remaining independent institutions, along with six individuals from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team.

Following 54 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete the final day.

The Tartans will be joined at the championships with University Athletic Association (UAA) counterparts New York University and Washington University.

Freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) heads the Cardinal and Gray's lineup with a stroke average of 78.1. Sophomore Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) and senior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) are second and third on the team with averages of 80.7 and 80.8, respectively.

Junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) has an average of 81.0 followed by freshman Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) with an 82.5 stroke average.

The first group is scheduled to tee off on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:30 a.m.
