Four Tartans Named WGCA All-American Scholars

(CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.) – Four members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team have been named to the 2017-18 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, as announced by the organization. Junior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School), sophomores Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) and Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho), along with freshman Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) received the honor for the Tartans.

A total of 1,011 women's collegiate golfers were recognized from NCAA Division I, II and III. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team is a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

All four played an integral part for the Tartans this past season on the links and in the classroom. Competing in its first NCAA Championship in only four years of varsity competition, the Tartans finished fifth.

Along with the play at the national tournament, the team set three school records this past season. The first came at the Generals Invitational hosted by Washington & Lee University in October when the team carded a two-round score of 628. The Tartans then started spring play at the UAA Championships and broke the single-round team score on day two after carding a 303. The third record came less than a week following the UAA Championships at the Jekyll Island Collegiate where the Tartans set the lowest three-round score with a 948.
