Lui and Yu Card Career-Low Rounds to Lead Tartans at Opening Round of Jekyll Island Collegiate

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf competed at the first day of the three-day, 54-hole Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate at the Indian Mounds Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia, on Friday. The Tartans are currently in second, after carding a team score of 302 Friday on the par-72, 5,801-yard course. The field is comprised of 21 Division III teams including eight ranked in the top 25 nationally.

New York University leads the field after recording a 300 while Methodist University is in third with a 304.

Junior Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) is tied with Morgan Bowen from Methodist atop the individual leader board along with sophomore teammate Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut), who entered the event as an individual, with a one-over par 73 in a field of 119 golfers. The 73 shot by Lui and Yu marked a career-best round for both Tartans.

Sophomore Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) shot an opening round of three-over par 75 and senior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) entered the clubhouse with a 76. Freshman Grace Chen (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis) fired a 78 while classmate Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) finished play with an 81.

Joining Yu playing as an individual for Carnegie Mellon was junior Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) who ended play on Friday with a79.

The second round of the event will be held Saturday, March 16 with the first group teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
