Tartans Finish Play at BSC Southern Shootout

(BESSEMER, Ala.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team finished play at the Birmingham Southern College Southern Shootout on Tuesday with a 36-hole score of 624 (315-309) to place third in a field of 10 teams. The event was played at the Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer, Alabama, a par 72, 5,802-yard course. The team score of 624 is the third-best 36-hole tournament score in program history.

Sophomore Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) carded back-to-back rounds of four-over par 76 to place second individually in a field of 61 golfers with a 36-hole score of 152.

Freshman Grace Chen (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis) improved two strokes on Tuesday to end play with a two-round score of 156 (79-77) while senior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) bettered her score by four strokes and carded a 77 on day two, as the senior finished with a 158 (81-77).

Freshman Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) carded a 36-hole score of 160 (79-81). Junior Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) ended the shootout with a 162 (83-79).

The Tartans had three individuals compete with freshman May Wang (Portland, Ore./Westview) carding back-to-back rounds of 79 for a 158. Sophomore Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) fired a 168 (80-88) and junior Sanchi Gupta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) shot a 186 (94-92).
