Tartans Lead After Day One at Golfweek DIII Fall Invite

(MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team competed at the opening day of the 2019 Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational held at the par 72, 5,832-yard Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida, on Sunday. The Tartans, last year's runner-up in this event, currently lead 17 other teams in the three-day, 54-hole tournament after carding an 18-hole score of 309. In addition, three of the Tartans currently sit inside the top 10 of the individual leaderboard.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Southwestern University both sit in a tie for second and trail CMU by five shots with rounds of 314, with defending team champion Rhodes College one stroke further behind after carding a 315.

Junior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and freshman Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) lead the Tartans, with both Simpson and Sudjianto firing a three-over par 75. They currently sit in a tie for third individually out of 95 players.

Sophomore Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) sits in a tie for 10th individually after shooting a 77. Freshmen Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga. / Northview) and Michelle Koo (Scottsdale, Ariz./BASIS Scottsdale Charter) both ended with an 82 and an 85, respectively.

The second round is set for Monday morning at 9:00 am.
