Tartans Begin Play at Golfweek DIII Spring Invite

(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team opened play in the first round of the 2021 Golfweek DIII Spring Invitational held at the par-72, 5,800-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Tartans carded a team score of 322 on Friday and were one of four teams of the eight-team filed to finish before play was halted because of darkness. Play will resume at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Senior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and freshman Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) both entered the clubhouse with a 79 and are tied for sixth individually in a field of 40 golfers.

Sophomore Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview), in her first round of the season, sits a stroke behind Simpson and Pan with an 80. Sophomore Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) ended the opening round with an 84 while freshman Meher Mankikar (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) carded an 86 in her first collegiate round.

The Tartans will be back on the links for the second round on Saturday following the conclusion of round one play.
