Women's Golf Heads Into Final Round of 2021 NCAA Championships On Top of Leaderboard

(EAST LANSING, Mich.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team carded a 305 in the third round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships Thursday and will head into the final round on Friday on top of the leaderboard with a 54-hole score of 925 (312-308-305). The Cardinal and Gray hold a four-shot lead over Methodist University and will vie for the school's first national team championship in any sport on Friday. The championships are being played on the par-72, 5,818-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan.

Sophomore Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) continues to lead the Tartans after carding a 79 in round three and has a 54-hole score of 228 (74-75-79). The sophomore is second individually in a field of 131 golfers.

On Thursday, freshman Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) recorded her best round of the championships with a two-over par 74. Pan is five strokes behind Sudjianto with a score of 233 (78-81-74) and is tied for fifth.

Sophomore Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview) and junior Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) both shot rounds of four-over par 76 Thursday and both are tied for 12th individually with a 234. Cao has carded rounds of 81, 77 and 76 while Susanto posted rounds of 82, 76 and 76. Senior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) ended day two with an 80 and has a 246 (78-88-80).

The final round of play is set for Friday with Simpson teeing off first for the Tartans at 9:40 a.m. The field was cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams following the third round of play on Thursday.
