Women's Golf National Runner-Up at 2021 NCAA Championships

(EAST LANSING, Mich.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team finished the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday as the national runner-up. The Tartans carded a team score of 311 on the final day and had a 72-hole score of 1,236 (312-308-305-311). The championships were played on the par-72, 5,818-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan. It marked the second appearance at the championships for the Tartans, as the 2018 team finished fifth.

Methodist University won the event with a 1,231 (321-300-308-302). Makensie Toole of George Fox University was crowned the individual medalist after carding a two-over par 291.

Sophomore Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) carded a 77 on Friday and placed second individually in a field of 131 golfers with a 72-hole score of 305 (75-72-79-77). Sudjianto's finish of second at the national event marks the highest individual finish in program history and also is a school record for the best four-round score.

Sophomore Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview) placed 11th with a 311 (81-77-76-77). Junior Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) and freshman Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) tied for 12th individually with a four round score of 312. On Friday, Susanto shot a 78 while Pan carded a 79. Senior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) ended day two with an 83 and shot a 329 (78-88-80-83) over the four days.

Cao's 311 is the second best four-round score in program history while Susanto's and Pan's 312 total rank tied for third.
