Mupparaju Wins Individual Medalist at Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate; Tartans Place Second with School Record for Lowest 36-Hole Score

(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) – In her first collegiate event, freshman Sriya Mupparaju (San Diego, Calif./Del Norte) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team claimed individual medalist honors at the 36-hole Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate Monday afternoon on the par-72, 5,632-yard Montgomery Country Club course. The Tartans placed second in the 13-team field setting the school record for the lowest 36-hole tournament score of 572 (286-286). The previous 36-hole program low was 597 that was accomplished last spring at the same event.

Mupparaju broke the lowest individual 36-hole total in the program's history by eight strokes with a six-under par 138 (70-68). She carded five birdies on Monday and 10 for the tournament. Mupparaju ended play on Monday with a four-under 68 which is the third lowest 18-hole round for a Tartan.

Classmate Kaylin Yeoh (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) finished three strokes behind with a 36-hole score of 141 after carding rounds of 72 and 69. Her 141 is the second best 36-hole for the program, as she placed tied for third individually in a field of 72 golfers.

Sophomore Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) and senior Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) tied for 19th with a score of 149. Pan improved five stroke in the second round and carded an even par 72 Monday while Susanto shot a 77. Junior Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) finished the event with a 151 (72-79).

The Tartans will be back on the Links September 27-28 when they travel to Houston, Texas for the NCAA Preview at Bay Oaks Country Club.
