Women’s Golf Receives Academic Accolades for 2021-22 Season

(CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.) – The 2021-22 Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team received academic recognition from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) when the association announced the top 25 teams with the highest team GPA for each division. The Tartans ranked seventh among NCAA Division III institutions. The 14-member Cardinal and Gray team finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.730.

The University of New Mexico (Division I) was named the recipient of the WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award for 2021-22, marking the fourth straight year. The award recognizes the women's collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA that includes all of the team's student-athletes for each season. New Mexico's 12 team members had an average GPA of 3.961. Leading Division II was University of Indianapolis, as the team's eight members averaged a 3.945 GPA, while Benedictine University led Division III with a 3.866 average GPA.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 650 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
