Tartans Win NCAA Preview as Wong Claims Individual Medalist Honors, Team Shatters Program Record for Lowest 36-Hole Score

(PALM SPRINGS, Calif.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team carded rounds of 281 (-7) and 279 (-9) at the 36-hole NCAA Preview at Desert Willow Golf Club in Palm Springs, California over the weekend. The Cardinal and Gray ended the event with a program record team score of 16-under par 560 to win the 15-team event. The previous lowest 36-hole school score was four-under par which was recorded at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate in September of 2021.

How it Happened:

  • Sophomore Emma Wong carded back-to-back rounds of three-under par 69 for a 36-hole score of 138 to claim individual medalist in a field of 85 golfers.
  • Sophomore Cecilia Jia and freshman Alyssa Lim carded rounds of two-under par 70 on Saturday and followed on Sunday with rounds of three-under par 69 for a 139. Jia and Lim tied for second individually.
  • Junior Samantha Wang ended the preview with an even par score of 144 after shooting back-to-back rounds of 72.
  • Freshman Jacqueline Zang ended play on Sunday with a one-over par 73 after carding an 80 on Saturday. Zang had a 36-hole score of 153.

Notes:

  • Wong now has two career induvial medalist honors.
  • Wong's 36-hole score of six-under par is tied for the lowest 36-hole score in program history.
  • The Tartans round of nine-under par is a school record for the lowest round in program history while their opening round score of seven-under par is the second lowest.
