Tartans On a Roll, Win 2-0 at Allegheny

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team won a tough road contest at Allegheny College Wednesday afternoon by a 2-0 score as two players each scored their first goal of the season. The Tartans move their record to 5-0-2 as the Gators fall to 4-4.

Senior Brianna Magill (Oak Brook, Ill./Downers Grove North) gave the Tartans a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when the Tartans moved up field with a counter attack following a save by junior keeper Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day). Magill received a cross into the middle from junior Rachel Contopoulos (Oakland, Calif./Berkeley) and turned on the 18-yard box and floated a shot to the top corner beyond the outstretched hands of Gator keeper Gabby Curtis.

In the 36th minute, junior Cecilia Zischkau (Washington, D.C./Oakcrest) scored off a corner kick by sophomore Lucy Havens (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) for her first strike of the year while Havens registered her third assist on the season.

Magill and Zischkau mark the 11th and 12th players to score for the Tartans this year.

"It's nice we're getting goals from everywhere on the field," head coach Yon Struble said. "We're really moving the ball around well."

"This was a tough and physical game for us," Yon Struble added. "It's always tough to come up here and to get a win on their home field is great as I know they don't lose here very often. I'm also proud of the team for earning another shutout."

Albi finished the match with four saves to record her third shutout of the year and the Tartans' fifth.

For their next contest the Tartans will face the College of Wooster on the road at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22.
