Tartans Win 3-1 on the Road to Remain Unbeaten

(WOOSTER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team remained unbeaten Saturday after a 3-1 victory over the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. The Tartans move to 6-0-2 on the season while the Fighting Scots drop to 5-4-1.

The Fighting Scots opened the scoring on the Tartans in the 13th minute when Kendal Wong scored on a free kick to the far post.

Nineteen seconds later, senior Brianna Magill (Oak Brook, Ill./Downers Grove North) answered with her second goal of the season off an assist by freshman Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak).

The score would stay tied to end the period but the Tartans went ahead for good in the 59th minute when sophomore Lucy Havens (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) scored off an assist by Pendergast. The goal marked Havens' second of the season.

Junior Courtney Brant (Davie, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) put the game away in the 82nd minute with an unassisted marker.

The game was delayed for over an hour due to weather but it seemed to benefit the Tartans who returned to the field energized.

"We made some changes in the midfield and the girls played really well together, leading to the goal by Lucy," head coach Yon Struble said. "We really did a nice job of changing the point of attack and taking advantage of the space and the size of their field."

"It was a really great team effort today," added Struble. "It was an unfortunate goal. To be scored on first but to come back and win 3-1 says a lot about where this team is and where we're headed."

The Tartans will face Grove City College on Wednesday, September 26 at 4:30 before welcoming #12 Washington University to begin University Athletic Association play on Sunday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m.
