#17 Tartans Win First-Ever NCAA Game 5-0 Over Cabrini

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Senior Brianna Magill (Oak Brook, Ill./Downers Grove North) scored twice as the Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team won its first-ever NCAA tournament game on Saturday, November 10 in front of a home crowd on the Carnegie Mellon campus. The Tartans defeated Cabrini College 5-0 to advance to the second round of the 2012 Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

Magill opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the seventh minute after she faked a move to the left and turned the ball back toward the center where she fired a near post shot past Cabrini keeper Maddy Edwards.

In the 15th minute, sophomore Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarclif) gave the Tartans a 2-0 lead with a header perfectly placed to the opposite post. Junior Rachel Contopoulos (Oakland, Calif./Berkeley) served a cross from the left sideline to the far corner of the 18-yard box where Reid met it with her head for her ninth goal of the season.

Two minutes later, Magill struck again after junior Alex Venegas (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) used a quick re-start after a foul to find Magill alone on the left side of the 18-yard box. Magill then fired a shot that was tipped up by Edwards. The Cabrini keeper then retreated to the line to grab the ball but it had crossed the line for Magill's seventh goal of the season.

The second half started similiar to the first as the Tartans fired off seven shots in the first nine minutes. Senior Mitra Ebrahimi (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) nearly scored with a header that was tipped over the bar by Edwards and later pushed a header just wide of the post after a corner kick by Contopoulos.

Venegas gave the Tartans a 4-0 advantage in the 59th minute with her fourth goal of the season. The junior lasered a shot, center of the net past Edwards from the right side of the box after receiving a pass from Reid.

Junior Cecilia Zischkau (Washington, D.C./Oakcrest) added a goal in the 89th minute when she dribbled through defenders on the left side and put a shot by Sarah Means for her third goal of the year.

Junior keepers Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) and Julie Rekant (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) combined for the team's ninth shutout of the season as Albi earned the win.

The Tartans will now face the winner of Ohio Northern University and Rochester Institute of Technology at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 11 at Carnegie Mellon.
