Adams and Reid Score in Tartans Second Straight Shutout

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team remains undefeated this season as it beat the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers 2-0 on the second day of the DoubleTree Tartan Cup.

In the fourth minute of play, freshman Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) took a shot from the right side that was blocked off the body of a Tiger defender, but bounced back at her giving her another shot as she put up the first point of the game for the Tartans.

In the 30th minute, junior Megan Bartoshuk (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) tapped the ball from the left across the goal mouth causing the goalkeeper to dive off her line to stop it. She couldn't smother it and senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) was in the perfect position to strike the ball into the back of the goal scoring her fifth of the season and the second of the game.

Despite several strong attempts for another goal in the second half, the Tartans were unable to add to their lead, as a shot by freshman Grant Wilmer (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents' Episcopal School) was saved by the Tiger defense and a shot by freshman Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) caromed off the crossbar. A strong defensive front led by senior Lauren Simicich (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial), sophomore Samantha Smith (Seattle, Wash./International Community School) and freshmen Keely Jelinek (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) and Katie Strycharz (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) kept the Tiger offense at bay and sophomore goalkeeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) earned her third shutout of the year, making two saves.

The Tartans will return to their home field on Friday evening, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. to take on Washington and Jefferson College.
