(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team increased its record to 5-0 after beating the Washington and Jefferson Presidents 6-2 on Friday evening in Pittsburgh.
Junior Alli McGugan (Chicago, Ill./Marist) drew the goalie from the net on the left making a quick pass to Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) on the other end of the goal who knocked the ball into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season and to put the Tartans up 1-0 in the 21st minute.
With 17 minutes left in the first half, the freshman Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) took a corner kick from the right hand side of the field which gave senior Jordyn Greenberg (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) the opportunity to score her second goal of the season off of a header out of the goalie's reach.
Just before the end of the first half, Greenberg and freshman Grant Wilmer assisted on a goal scored by freshman Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) to put the Tartans up 3-0. It was Kontor's first goal this season.
In the first five minutes of the second half, Reid struck again. Off of a cross from sophomore Megan Bartoshuk (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia), Reid put a header into the top corner of the net to put the Tartans up 4-0 and also recording her seventh goal of the season.
Just a few minutes later, Reid then assisted Bartoshuk on her second goal of the season with a pass from one side of the goal to the other as Bartoshuk punched the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal increasing the Tartans lead to 5-0.
After dropping two goals to the Presidents, sophomore Delaney Lam (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Newbury Park) slammed the ball into the back of the goal off a free kick for her second goal of the season and increased the Tartans goal count to six.
The Tartans will compete again on Sunday, September 12 at Capital University.
