No. 4 Tartans Record Sixth Shutout to Remain Undefeated

(FROSTBURG, Md.) - The No. 4 Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team continued its perfect season as the team recorded its sixth shutout scoring three goals to defeat Frostburg State University 3-0 to advance to 8-0.

Despite a 0-0 score at the end of the first period, the Tartans out shot the Bobcats 10-1.  Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) had an imperative save to keep the Bobcats scoreless.

The Tartans scored their first goal and gained momentum in the 70th minute of play.  In a tight cluster in front of the net, senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) sent a header at the goalie that was deflected back to freshman Alex Moy (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) who was able knock a header over the goalie's hand for her first goal of the season.

Three minutes later, the Tartans would strike again. Freshman Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) found herself crowded by the defense in front of the net and fired a pass to freshman Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) who was able to find the back of the net to put the Tartans up 2-0.

To solidify the win, with seven minutes left in the game, junior Alli McGugan (Chicago, Ill./Marist) dribbled the ball past a lone defender in front of the goal and sent a hard shot to the bottom left hand corner of the net for her first score of the season.

"The team came in with a great mentality knowing today was going to be a tough game," assistant coach Shannon Agnew said. "We did a good job dealing with different forms of adversity and found a way to put some shots in the back of the net. We will enjoy a day off tomorrow and get back to work as we prepare for our conference schedule."

The Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team will begin conference play in the University Athletic Association on Saturday, October 4 at 2:30 p.m. in Chicago, Illinois, against No. 7 University of Chicago.
