No. 5 Tartans Top No. 23 NYU to Take UAA Standings Lead

(New York, N.Y.) - The No. 5 Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team (11-1, 3-1) topped the No. 23 New York University Violets (9-4-1, 2-1-1) 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in an University Athletic Association (UAA) competition. The win puts the Tartans at the top of the UAA standings with three games to play.

Just inside the 68th minute of play, off a corner kick by freshman Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy), junior Alli McGugan (Chicago, Ill./Marist) made contact with the back of the net with a header to put the Tartans up 1-0 against the Violets.

The Tartans allowed just one shot on goal for the Violets, which came in the 14th minute as sophomore goalkeeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) made the save.

Senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) wasn't able to find the back of the net but put three of five shots on goal.

The Tartans will compete at home on Tuesday, October 28 at 7 p.m. against Penn State Behrend before resuming UAA competition against Case Western Reserve Univeristy (8-3-3, 1-2-1) at home on Friday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m.
