Tartans Blank Penn State Behrend in 3-0 Victory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – On Tuesday evening, the Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team defeated the Penn State Behrend Lions in a 3-0 shutout to increase their season record to 12-1.

In the first two minutes of the game, the Tartans scored off of a corner kick from freshman Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) giving freshman Alex Moy (Southborough ,Mass./Algonquin Regional) the opportunity to knock the ball into the back of the net near the opposite post.

In the 20th minute of play from the left corner of the field, freshman Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) sent a pass to senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) who scored on a shot to the back middle of the net for her eighth goal of the season.

The third score of the game came off a free kick by Iatarola in the 31st minute. Her shot from 25 yards out deflected off the wall and to the far post past the diving Behrend keeper for her third goal of the season.

Despite a scoreless second half, the Tartans ended the game with a total of eight shots with opportunities for scoring from 10 corner kicks.

Tartan goalkeeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) was able to save the single shot from the Lions in the second half to secure the win for Carnegie Mellon.

The Tartans will next play the Case Western Reserve University Spartans at Carnegie Mellon on Friday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. in an University Athletic Association game.
