Reid Scores in Final Seconds as Tartans Defeat Case Western

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team (13-1, 4-1) beat out the Case Western Reserve University Spartans (8-5-3, 1-3-1) in an University Athletic Association (UAA) conference match when senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) scored the single goal of the game with just eight seconds left in regulation.

With eight seconds left on the clock, freshman Katie Strycharz (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) sent a cross from the right corner to the far post where Reid headed it to the opposite corner past Spartan keeper Abbey Smith for her ninth goal of the season.

Forty seconds prior to Reid's game winner, freshman Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) rocked a shot that Smith swatted away.

In the second half, the Tartans had control taking seven shots on goal including two in the first ten minutes by freshman Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School).

The Tartans outshot the Spartans 11-3 on goal and 20-5 overall.

The Carnegie Mellon defense led by sophomore goalkeeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) who had three saves. The back line of freshman Keeley Jelinek (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage), sophomore Samantha Smith (Seattle, Wash./International Community School), freshman Alex Moy (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional), and Strycharz limited the chances at the goal for the Spartan offense.

The Tartans finish a weekend of UAA play at home on Sunday monring, November 2, against Rochester University at 11 a.m.
