No. 4 Tartans Record 11th Shutout in 5-0 Victory Over Rochester

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The No. 4 Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team (14-1, 5-1) recorded their 11th shutout this season as it defeated the University of Rochester (5-8-4, 1-4-1) 5-0 on Sunday afternoon in an University Athletic Association (UAA) conference game with five goals from five different players.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle), who has started in all 15 games in the goal this season, tied the school record for shutouts in a single season with 11 and wins with 14 after this afternoon's victory against Rochester where she had two saves.

Freshman Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) entered the game in the 25th minute of play.  Just 30 seconds later, Stritter led the attack to assist senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) to the Tartans first goal of game and Reid's 10th this season. Reid one-timed a shot over the keeper's head off the cross from Stritter from near the corner flag.

Four minutes later, in the 30th minute, freshman Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) attempted a shot that rocked the crossbar and rebounded back.  Fellow freshman Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) capitalized on the opportunity and the sent ball into the back of the net to give the Tartans a 2-0 lead.

Stritter, with less than five minutes left to play in the first half, was able to dribble through the Rochester defense and score her third goal of the season as she sent the ball sailing through the hands of Yellowjacket goalkeeper Aubrey Jaicks.

In the 53rd minute of play, freshman Katie Strycharz (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) sent a crossing pass from the right corner.  Iatarola drilled the ball to the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

The final score for the Tartans came with just three minutes remaining in the game from freshman Alyssa Brandt (Campton Hills, Ill./St. Charles North).  From a long pass from sophomore Samantha Smith (Seattle, Wash./International Community School), Brandt settled the ball and chipped the keeper who dove for the stop for her first goal of the season.

The Tartans will wrap-up the regular season and UAA conference play at home on Saturday, November 8 at 2:30 p.m. against No. 21 Emory University.
