Tartans Secure First Place in UAA Despite 1-0 Setback Against Emory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The No. 4 Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team (14-2, 5-2) secured first place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Saturday evening despite a 1-0 setback against No. 24 Emory University (11-1-6, 2-1-4), marking the program's first-ever UAA Championship.

The first half ended in a tie of 0-0.  The Tartans had multiple close attempts at the goal by freshman Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) and senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff). 

In the 69th minute of play, the Eagles found the back of the net as forward Emily Feldman turned and dribbled the ball before striking a shot low to the far post past Tartan sophomore keeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle).

The Tartans had shots in the second half by Iatarola, Reid, and senior Lauren Simicich (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial).

Despite the loss, the Tartans outshot the Eagles 9-5 and had the advantage in cornerkicks, 5-2.

With the UAA Championship, the Tartans earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Championship Tournament. The NCAA selection show will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10.  Click here to watch the show!
