Women's Soccer Powers Past Frostburg State 3-1

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted Frostburg State University on Sunday, September 20 and defeated the Bobcats 3-1 for its fifth win of the year. The Tartans remain undefeated with a 5-0-1 record while the Bobcats dropped to 4-4.

Sophomore Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) got the Tartans on the scoreboard in the 21st minute when she dribbled past a defender and fired a shot past Rhianna Lapen in goal for the Bobcats. The goal was the second of the year for Adams and second in two games.

Two minutes later the Tartans added to the lead when senior Carson Quiros (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) took a shot from 25 yards. Quiros prepped a pass from sophomore Grant Wilmer (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents' Episcopal School) before her shot skipped past Lapen for the goal.

Frostburg was able to break through the Tartans defense in the second half when Chelsie McCoy beat a defender to the endline and crossed the ball to the middle of the box. Erin Worthman headed the ball down at the goal and it bounced over sophomore Sarah Mahler (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) in goal for the Tartans in the 63rd minute.

Shortly after the Bobcats' score, Adams put the Tartans back ahead by two. The sophomore picked up a cleared ball by the defense and found space to dribble forward and fire a shot high and through the hands of Lapen for her third of the season.

Mahler earned the win in goal making two saves for the game.

The Tartans will be back in action on Tuesday, September 22 when they host Baldwin Wallace College at 7:00 p.m.
