Tartans Take Down Yellow Jackets in Non-Conference Match

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday, September 22 for its third game in five days, winning the contest 4-1. The sixth-ranked Tartans are now 6-0-1 on the season while the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-3-2.

Senior Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak) put the Tartans ahead 1-0 in the last seconds of the eighth minute when she received a pass across the box and through the defense from sophomore Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita). Pendergast calmly took a touch before slotting the shot to the low right post for her second goal of the season.

In the 29th minute, sophomore Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) was fouled making a move inside the box resulting in a penalty kick opportunity for the Tartans. Pendergast stepped to the spot and struck the ball past Yellow Jacket keeper Emily Tallmadge for the 2-0 advantage.

Freshman Tessa Allen (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Bishop Montgomery) was on the receiving end of a corner kick into the box by junior Delaney Lam (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Newbury Park) in the 38th minute. Allen leapt over the defense and headed the ball past Tallmadge for her second score of the year.

Three minutes later, Stritter found space and took on the defense in the left side of the box. She then found sophomore Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) wide open with a short pass that Kontor prepped with an easy touch and shot past the keeper for the goal.

The Yellow Jackets were able to get on the board in the 77th minute when Kelly Gough headed a cross from Kadi Tucker that Sarah Mahler couldn't keep her hands on for the save.

The Tartans will be back in action on Friday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. when they host John Carroll University.
