No. 5 Tartans Earn 5-1 Road Win Against La Roche

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon Univesity women's soccer team played a rescheduled game at La Roche College on Tuesday, October 6, defeating the Redhawks 5-1. The Tartans are now 10-0-1 and return to University Athletic Association play on Saturday.

The fifth-ranked Tartans relinquished the first goal of the game on a miscue that resulted in an own goal in the 25th minute.

In the 33rd minute, junior Megan Bartoshuk (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) scored the equalizer on a breakaway. Less than four minutes before the half ended, the Tartans took a 2-1 lead when sophomore Nicole Winegardner (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) curled a shot to the top right for her second score of the season.

The Tartans added to the lead in the 72nd minute on a blast by sophomore Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy). The sophomore fielded a pass from sophomore Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) and fired the shot from the top of the 18-yard box for her third score of the year.

Four minutes later, senior Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak) lofted a shot over the Redhawk keeper for the Tartans 4-1 lead. Adams was once again credited with the assist.

In the last two minutes, junior Delaney Lam (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Newbury Park) recorded the team's fifth goal when she finished a pass by Bartoshuk.

Junior Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) earned the win for her fourth of the season.

The Tartans return to their home field on Saturday, October 10 to face New York University at 11:00 a.m.
