Tartans Win Second Straight UAA Championship with 1-0 Double-Overtime Victory at Case Western Reserve

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team earned its second straight University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship when it defeated Case Western Reserve University, 1-0, on Saturday, November 7. The Tartans share the league title with Washington University who won 2-0 at Chicago, as both hold a 6-1 Association mark.

Sophomore Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) scored the game winner for the Tartans in the 103rd minute as Case Western Reserve shut out the Tartans' offense until that time. Junior defender Samantha Smith (Seattle, Wash./International Community School) sent a free kick toward the goal where Adams was there to finish it for the Tartans' 15th victory of the season.

Junior Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) made one save for the game and earned her ninth victory of the season and seventh shutout, giving her 21 shutouts for her career and the most all-time in Carnegie Mellon women's soccer history.

The Tartans peppered the Case Western Reserve goal, but Megan Romelfanger stopped eight shots as the Spartans forced the second overtime period before Adams scored her fifth goal of the season.

Junior Delaney Lam (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Newbury Park) put three shots on goal for the Tartans while Adams and sophomore Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) both had two on frame.

The Tartans, ranked fifth in the nation, will find out their post season fate on Monday, November 9 when the NCAA women's soccer committee releases the 2015 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship bracket. You can follow the selection show at www.ncaa.com.
