Adams Scores Twice in Win Against Allegheny

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted Allegheny College on Sunday, September 25 and earned a 2-1 victory to advance to 6-2-1 for the season. Junior Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) scored both goals in the win.

The Tartans' first goal came in the 15th minute when Adams slotted a shot to the low post. A ball forward by senior Smaantha Smith (Seattle, Wash./International Community School) was controlled in the box by fellow senior Megan Bartoshuk (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia). A few touches later, Bartoshuk tapped the ball back to Adams who calmly finished the shot under defensive pressure.

In the 29th minute, junior Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) rocked a shot off the inside of the post but it bounced back into play. Two minutes later she had a shot saved by Allegheny's keeper, Colleen Fleming.

A quick start to the second half had the Tartans up 2-0 when Adams again placed a shot low inside the post from a similar position. Freshman Ryan Casey (Pasadena, Calif./Polytechnic) earned the assist after she rounded the defense, dribbled into the box and played a back pass to Adams for the shot.

Allegheny broke up the shutout when Jessie Thiessen put in her fifth goal of the season with a shot from the 18-yard box past sophomore Sarah Mahler (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) who charged out to cut the angle.

The Tartans will stay home and face ninth-ranked Brandeis University to open University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m.
