Early Goal Leads to Tartans Defeat Against #10 Brandeis

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted 10th-ranked Brandeis University in the first University Athletic Assoiciation (UAA) contest of the year for both teams on Saturday, October 1. The Judges earned the 2-0 victory to advance to 10-0-1 while the Tartans move to 6-3-1.

The Judges scored an early goal when Cidney Moscovitch picked off a pass by Tartan keeper Mia Keyser (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage) in the second minute. She immediately fired a shot over Keyser for the first goal of the game.

In the ninth minute, a shot by senior Delaney Lam (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Newbury Park) was saved by Alexis Grossman, who also made a save in the 24th and 34th minutes.

In the 35th minute, a Brandeis defender stopped a shot by sophomore Kaily Bruch (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), as the Tartans nearly equalized.

In the 53rd minute, Brandeis pressed forward and Haliana Burhans crossed a ball toward the far post where Moscovitch took a shot that was saved by Keyser who dove to her right. The rebound fell right to the foot of Lea McDaniel who finished her 10th goal of the season.

The Tartans put two more shots on goal in the second frame but Grossman was there to stop both and preserve the shutout.

The Tartans will next face 16th-ranked New York University in New York, N.Y., on Saturday, October 8.
