Adams Scores in Overtime for No. 19 Tartans

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The 19th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team scored midway through the first overtime to come from behind and defeat host University of Rochester on Friday, October 14 in the third University Athletic Association (UAA) game of the year for both teams. The Tartans are now 8-3-1 for the season and tied at the top of the UAA standings with a 2-1 record.

Junior forward Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) was the game-winning goal scorer again for the Tartans when she chipped a shot over the head of Madilynne Lee from right inside the 18-yard box in the 96th minute. Adams also scored the game-winner in a 1-0 victory at New York University and now has four for the season. On the scoring play, senior Amelia Clark (Frederick, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) sent a long pass forward that took one bounce before Adams beat the defense to the ball and lifted the shot off the bounce for the goal.

The Yellowjackets (2-6-4, 1-2) held a 1-0 advantage until the 72nd minute when sophomore Katja Brackelmanns-Puig (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) finished a left-footed shot from 12 yards out to the top left of the goal. The goal was her second of the season and was asssited by freshman Sydney Webber (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall).

The Tartans controlled the offensive opportunities with 12 shots on goal to four for the Yellowjackets, but the host team scored early in the first half when Jean Chakmakas was able to tap in a rebound in the fourth minute after McKenzie Runyan's shot hit the post.

Freshman Mia Keyser (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage) made three saves in goal to earn her third victory of the season.

The nationally ranked Tartans will continue play on the road with a contest on Sunday, October 16 at Emory University. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
