#24 Tartans Close Regular Season with 2-0 Victory against CWRU

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team closed the regular season with a 2-0 victory against Case Western Reserve University at home on Saturday, November 5. The win improves the Tartans' record to 11-5-1 and 5-2 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Spartans fall to 6-8-4 and 0-5-2.

The Tartans controlled play in the first half and eventually broke through the Spartan defense in the 42nd minute when freshman Sydney Webber (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) scored her first career goal. Junior Morgan Kontor (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) played a cross from the right sideline to the near post where Webber met it in the air with a quick shot past Sarah Newcomb in goal for the Spartans.

The Tartans took nine shots for the half with Newcomb making three saves.

Case Western Reserve put two shots on goal in the second period that were stopped by senior Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) before junior Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) scored her third goal of the season in the early moments of the 89th minute. Stritter collected a clearance from the defense from about 20 yards out and put a shot over the head of Newcomb.

The Tartans can share the UAA title if the University of Chicago defeats Washington University in St. Louis later this evening.
